Tripping & How To Craft The King Tut Mask DIY Recipe

Tripping is a ‘fun’ mechanic in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) where your character will sometime trip on their feet and fall when using specific items! Learn what triggers tripping and how to craft the King Tut Mask item in this guide.

What Is Tripping? Why Did I Fall Down?

If you’ve found yourself randomly tripping and falling down onto your face when running around your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s likely because you’re using one of a couple special items that trigger a mechanic known as tripping in the game.

In past Animal Crossing games, tripping was a feature tied into the greater Luck mechanic where your character could have varying degrees of luck each day effecting different parts of your gameplay. Since this system was connected to Katrina though, a special character that doesn’t exist in New Horizons yet, we haven’t seen luck as a system in this version of Animal Crossing.

Rather than being part of a full proper Luck mechanic in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it looks like tripping has just been added as part of two specific types of items, at least for now. We’ll go over them both below.

Tripping With Balloons

Balloons are a new type of item added in Version 1.4 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons that have the special tripping mechanic built in when you run across your island. There’s five different Balloons in the colors of Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, and Pink.

You can get Balloons by participating in Redd’s Raffle as part of the Fireworks Show event taking place on Sundays during August. Learn more about the Fireworks Show Event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with our complete guide here.

Tripping With King Tut Mask

For the complete tripping experience, you’ll want to get your hands on the special new King Tut Mask headwear item! When you wear this accessory on your head, it’s particularly a guarantee that you’ll trip and fall at least a couples time per minute when running.

Why would you want to wear an item that guarantees falling on your face repeatedly? We’re not really sure, but it’s just fun sometimes because it’s so unique!

How To Unlock & Craft King Tut Mask DIY Crafting Recipe

Unlocking the King Tut Mask is pretty simple and only requires you to find at least one Gold Nugget after updating to Version 1.4.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Note that it needs to be a new one  — taking one from your existing inventory and picking it up won’t count.

When you pick up a new Gold Nugget off the ground after hitting a rock, your character will discover the new King Tut Mask DIY Crafting Recipe and learn how to craft it! Apparently those shiny gold nuggets remind yourself of royalty.

Having trouble getting a Gold Nugget to drop from a rock? Remember that you can visit Nook Mile Islands with a Nook Miles Ticket to find more rocks than just the ones on your own island! Plus, there are increased odds of finding a Gold Nugget from rocks on these islands.
