This guide was newly updated for 2023 reflecting new content added in 2021 and minor changes made in Version 2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Bunny Day Event Start Time & Date

The Bunny Day event for 2023 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will begin on April 2nd, 2023 running through until April 9th, 2023 for Easter. Next year, it will run from March 24th to 31st, 2024. If you missed 2021 or 2022’s event, new items were introduced that you can learn about here.

For previous years, the Bunny Day event ran from April 10th to 17th in 2022, March 28th to April 4th in 2021, and April 1st to 12th in 2020. For sometime, you could not time travel backwards to previous year’s events, but this was changed in Version 2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Bunny Day Event Activities — What To Do

When the Bunny Day Event first begins in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can find the suspicious Zipper T. Bunny wandering around the island waiting to greet you! He’ll show up for one day starting one week prior to Easter (April 2nd in 2023) before disappearing to return on Easter Day (April 9th in 2023) with more prizes.

We’ve summarized the main activity flow for the Bunny Day event period below, with more details on each part later in this complete guide.

  • Talk to Zipper T. Bunny on your island to unlock the Bunny Day Bed DIY crafting recipe.
  • Purchase Bunny Day items at Nook’s Cranny in the seasonal slot.
  • Find Bunny Day Eggs hidden around your island in trees, balloons, rocks, water, or buried in the ground.
  • Unlock Bunny Day DIY crafting recipes by shooting down balloons, finding egg bottles, talking to villagers, and collecting eggs.
  • Craft Bunny Day items at a DIY Workbench using unlocked recipes and collected eggs.
  • On Easter Day (April 9th in 2023), talk to Zipper T. Bunny to unlock four additional Bunny Day items.

Learn more about all of the fun Bunny Day activities you can enjoy during this event in the sections below, including specific details on how to get every item reward available in this event.

Find & Talk To Zipper T. Bunny

Later on Easter Day (April 9th in 2023) for the actual Bunny Day event, Zipper T. Bunny will return to help you get four additional items:

How To Find & Get Bunny Day Eggs

There are six different types of eggs you can hunt down and find hidden across your island during the Bunny Day event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! By collecting these eggs, you’ll be able to craft limited-time Easter themed items for Bunny Day.

In the sections below, we’ll tell you how to find and get each type of Bunny Day Egg item to the best of our knowledge, including some tips and tricks on the best ways!

How to Find & Get Earth Eggs

Earth Eggs for Bunny Day can be found hidden and buried in the ground around your island in a very similar manner to fossils in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They can be located by spotting a ‘Star’ or ‘X’ pattern on the grass, then you’ll need to use your Shovel tool to dig up the ‘X’ and retrieve the Earth Egg!

There are a limited number of Earth Eggs buried on your island each day, typically around four per day, and cannot be found in an unlimited manner. However, you can find more Earth Eggs in a single day by visiting a mystery island using Nook Miles Tickets to discover more Earth Egg dig spots!

How to Find & Get Leaf Eggs

Leaf Eggs for Bunny Day can be found sitting on fruitless trees across your island and look similar to regular fruit on trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Check out the screenshot below to see what you should be looking for when hunting down Leaf Eggs:

When you spot Leaf Eggs on a tree, simply unequip any tool items and shake the tree with your hands. The three Leaf Egg items will drop to the ground where they can be picked up by pressing the Y Button!

There are a limited number of tress with Leaf Eggs on your island each day with typically around three separate trees containing a total of 9 Leaf Eggs available per day. However, you can find more Leaf Eggs in a single day by visiting a mystery island using Nook Miles Tickets to discover more tress with eggs!

How to Find & Get Sky Eggs

Sky Eggs for Bunny Day can be found inside of floating presents in balloons flying over your island, just like other flying presents in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, the appearance for Sky Egg dropping presents looks different from regular balloons. They have a unique Egg-themed balloon design, so you’ll know what to expect.

Check out the screenshot below to see what balloons you should be looking for when hunting down Sky Eggs:

When you spot an Egg Balloon present flying over your island, simply equip the Slingshot tool item and shoot it down with your hands. The Egg Balloon will drop to the ground and either transform into a Sky Egg or remain a present containing a Bunny Day DIY crafting recipe! Both items can be picked up by pressing the Y Button.

Keep in mind that balloon presents do not appear flying over your island when you are playing online with others, so be sure to play on your own island with no visitors present to find Sky Eggs.

Unlike most other egg items for Bunny Day, you should be able to obtain an unlimited number of Sky Eggs per day by continuously shooting down new floating Egg Balloons with presents flying across your island. For more information on how to farm balloons, see our Jail Bars guide here.

How to Find & Get Stone Eggs

Stone Eggs for Bunny Day can be found inside of rocks found around your island — the same ones that you normally get stone, clay, and iron nuggets from in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

To get Stone Eggs from a rock, just start hitting the rock with your shovel or axe like you normally would for other materials. When you do this, there is a chance for between 0-8 Stone Eggs to come out!

You can only get a limited amount of Stone Eggs on your own island each day since each rock can only be bit once per day. However, you can find more Stone Eggs in a single day by visiting a mystery island using Nook Miles Tickets to discover more rocks with eggs!

In fact, according to dialogue we’ve seen from villagers and personal experience, the rocks found on mystery islands apparently have a higher drop rate of finding Stone Eggs from them.

How to Find & Get Water Eggs

Water Eggs for Bunny Day can be found randomly by fishing in your island’s ocean or rivers, similarly to catching other fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

You can find Water Eggs by looking for shadows in the river and ocean. When you spot a fish shadow, just use your Fishing Rod tool and cast in front of the shadow until it bites.

To increase your chances of catching Water Eggs from the ocean or river though, we recommend scouting for a medium sized fish shadow. From our research so far, you can catch Water Eggs from fish shadows of that size most frequently.

Check out the screenshot collage below to get an idea of the most frequent Water Egg fish shadow size:

Unlike most other egg items for Bunny Day, you should be able to get an unlimited number of Water Eggs per day by continuously fishing on your island. In fact, some players might find it annoying that you can get so many when you may only want to fish for actual creatures.

How to Find & Get Wood Eggs

Wood Eggs for Bunny Day can be randomly found by hitting trees throughout your island in the same manner that you gather Wood, Softwood, and Hardwood crafting materials in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

When you equip a Flimsy Axe, Stone Axe, or Axe tool and hit a tree, there is a random chance of 0-3 Wood Eggs dropping on the ground from the tree. If an egg drops, just pick up the Wood Egg by pressing the Y Button.

We’ve personally seen as few as 0 Wood Eggs and as many as 3 Wood Eggs drop from a single true, so the drop rate appears to be entirely random. Just keep chopping trees if you can’t find any as you’re probably having bad luck!

Don’t forget to chop your Palm Trees that grow Coconuts too as they can drop Wood Eggs as well. According to dialogue from villagers and our research, the Coconut Trees actually have an increased chance of giving Wood Eggs!

With our own testing, we found that out of the 15 or so Coconut Trees that hit with an axe, all but one tree produced Wood Eggs, and often multiple eggs.

You can only get materials including Wood Eggs from each tree on your island once per day, so there is a limit to how many Wood Eggs can be found at your own island every day. However, you can find more Wood Eggs in a single day by visiting a mystery island using Nook Miles Tickets to discover more trees with eggs!

Get Easter Eggs From Villagers In ‘Pings’

New to the 2021 edition of Bunny Day, villagers on your island can sometimes ‘ping’ and run towards you offering 5 free Easter Eggs of a random type. If you need some quick and easy eggs, try entering and leaving buildings before walking near villagers to potentially trigger this.

Trade Easter Eggs for Different Types

Exclusively on Easter Day (April 9th in 2023), the finale of the Bunny Day event taking place on Easter itself, you can trade your Easter Eggs for different types by talking to Zipper T. Bunny!

You can use this trading option to trade the eggs you have excess amounts of in for the eggs you collected the least of during the event. For most players, this will mean trading Sky Eggs or Water Eggs in exchange for Leaf Eggs or Earth Eggs.

It’s not a great exchange rate, but it can still help you out since many Bunny Day items require an equal amount of each type of Easter Egg to be crafted.

How To Get & Unlock Bunny Day DIY Crafting Recipes

To craft limited-time Bunny Day event items with the Easter Eggs you collect, you’ll need to unlock the DIY Crafting recipes for each item allowing you to craft it, which can be done in a variety of ways during the event.

We cover all of the main methods for unlocking Bunny Day DIY crafting recipes below, not including the recipes unlocked from Zipper T. Bunny that are discussed earlier in this guide in the ‘Find & Talk To Zipper T. Bunny’ section.

Shoot Down Egg Balloon Presents for Bunny Day Recipes

During the Bunny Day event, you can discover new crafting recipes related to the event by shooting down Egg Balloon presents floating in the sky using your slingshot, just like other balloons in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

When you hit an Egg Balloon with your slingshot, one of two possible items can drop from the sky. You will either get a present containing a random furniture Bunny Day DIY crafting recipe or a Sky Egg item.

Talk to Villagers for Bunny Day Recipes

It’s possible for villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to ‘ping’ you when you walk near them with a “Hey [Player Name]!” pop-up. If this happens, you should definitely make sure to speak with them!

When you speak to a villager after receiving a ping during the Bunny Day event, they may give you one of two possible new Bunny Day DIY crafting recipes — the Bunny Day Crown and the Bunny Day Bag.

Find Egg Message Bottles on the Beach

During the Bunny Day event, you can sometimes find special Egg Message Bottles that can appear on the beach, just like regular message in a bottles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Much like those regular bottles, you’ll receive new Bunny Day DIY crafting recipes in these Egg Message Bottles from Zipper T. Bunny helping you learn how to craft Bunny Day items.

Pick Up Lots of Each Egg for Clothing Egg Recipes

When you pick up enough of a specific type of Egg, like Earth Eggs, you will eventually unlock a set of clothing and accessory crafting recipes for that Egg type!

For example, the Sky-Dress Outfit, Sky-Egg Shell, and Sky-Egg Shoes DIY Crafting recipes can all be unlocked automatically by collecting lots of Sky Eggs.

Plus, there’s an extra set of Egg Party Dress and Egg Party Hat crafting recipes that can only be learned after unlocking the clothing sets for all six Egg types!

Bunny Day Event Rewards & Prizes: Items & Recipes

As you’d expect for an Animal Crossing: New Horizons event, the Bunny Day event boasts an entire collection of Easter themed items to obtain for your island.

Generally speaking, there are three different categories of rewards to unlock for the Bunny Day event:

  • 5 exclusive Bunny Day furniture items available for purchase at Nook’s Cranny.
  • 18 Bunny Day furniture items that can be either crafted with Easter Eggs or earned directly from Zipper T. Bunny, depending on the item.
  • 21 Bunny Day clothing items that can be crafted using Easter Eggs. These are unlocked by collecting enough of each egg type.

For a complete list of every single Bunny Day item and crafting recipe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, including the specific requirements to get each one, check out our Bunny Day Set Items & Crafting Recipes: How To Get Them (2021) guide here.

In past Animal Crossing games, there was a pastel egg-themed furniture set called the Egg Series for Easter, but it has been replaced by the new Bunny Day items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
