Young Spring Bamboo DIY Recipes: How To Get & Season Dates

The Young Spring Bamboo is a special Spring seasonal crafting material in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! Learn how to get Young Spring Bamboo and all of the bamboo items you can craft with it in this guide.

How to Get Young Spring Bamboo

To get Young Spring Bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons naturally, you’ll need to be playing in Spring Season during February 25th to May 31st in the Northern Hemisphere or August 25th to November 30th in the Southern Hemisphere.

During the Spring, you can get Young Spring Bamboo by simply hitting a grown Bamboo Tree with an axe! Bamboo Trees can be found either on a random mystery island visited using Nook Miles Tickets, or grown on your own island if you have planted a Bamboo Shoot.

When you hit a Bamboo Tree with an axe, both regular year-round Bamboo and seasonal Young Spring Bamboo will randomly drop from the bamboo tree! In our research, there appears to be about a 33% chance of dropping Young Spring Bamboo from a tree when you hit one.

Assuming that you don’t want to chop down the bamboo tree and wish to keep it for further use, you should use either a Flimsy Axe or Stone Axe. You can get bamboo crafting materials from a bamboo tree once per day, similarly to getting wood from regular trees.

Make A Bamboo Tree Farm

If you’re looking to get a lot of Young Spring Bamboo to craft a variety of items, it might be worthwhile setting up a Bamboo Tree farm somewhere on your island! To speed up the process, you can eat fruit and use Fruit Energy to directly dig up entire Bamboo Trees from a mystery island, allowing you to completely skip growing bamboo yourself.

Then you can head to your home island and begin planting them in a nicely organized farm like the example image above. You can then farm both Bamboo and Young Spring Bamboo from the trees every single day by using your axe on them.

How to Get Young Spring Bamboo Outside Spring Season

If you’d like to craft items that require Young Spring Bamboo and your island isn’t currently in season for them to appear, you can travel to another player’s island that is and catch them there. Alternatively, you may adjust the date and time on your Nintendo Switch to February 25th to May 31st in the Northern Hemisphere or August 25th to November 30th in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Young Spring Bamboo crafting material can also be kept in your house storage or other places just like any other item, so you can trade with players online outside of the season who have stockpiled the resource.

How to Get & Learn Young Spring Bamboo DIY Recipes

There are two ways you can find and get new Young Spring Bamboo DIY Crafting Recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but unfortunately it’s mostly dependent on luck taking time and patience.

Morning Isabelle Announcement

Near the beginning of the Spring Season, you should hear from Isabelle in the morning announcements about the new seasonal crafting material and recipes. If you haven’t already learned the Bamboo Noodle Slide DIY Crafting recipe, she’ll send it to your NookPhone during the announcements.

There’s been a lot of confusion in the community about when or how this morning announcement from Isabelle occurs, but from our knowledge so far, it can only happen when you have no other notable announcements.

In other words, the game seems to use the seasonal recipe announcements as a filler item of sorts when there’s nothing else for Isabelle to talk about! So whenever you have no villagers moving in, buildings opening, or other notable events for her to discuss, you should get the announcement.

Flying Balloon Presents

During the Spring  season, all Balloon Presents flying in the sky over your island have a chance of dropping a Young Spring Bamboo DIY Crafting recipe! Unfortunately, there’s no concrete way to control exactly what you’ll get, so just keep shooting them down until you get lucky.

Duplicate DIY Crafting Recipe items are easily possible too and should be expected, so we recommend trying to make trades with friends to complete the collection faster. You may be able to sell any duplicates for a hefty amount online too, especially to players in the opposite Hemisphere as you.

We do have some tips for how you can most effectively hunt and farm balloon presents though! First of all, watch for the balloon traveling direction — they will always fly across your island in a single direction during the morning and afternoon. Then later in the day around 6PM, the direction of wind will reverse!

Whichever end of your island the balloons are travelling from, we recommend hanging out on that beach side to regularly walk up and down the shore looking for them as they first reach the island. Pass the time by collecting some Manila Clams or trying your hand at fishing too!

Secondly, flying balloon presents always have a chance of spawning on an every 5 minute cycle beginning at 4 minutes past the hour. That means you can expect possible balloon spawns at 1:04, 1:09, 1:14, 1:19, and so on. Keep in mind these are possible appearances though — they won’t always show up every time and a spawn time could pass by multiple times before actually happening.

What About Bottles & Villagers Crafting?

Contrary to popular belief, these special seasonal crafting recipes are exclusive to dropping from flying balloon presents in the sky. Your villagers crafting in their homes and message in a bottles appearing on your beach draw from a separate pool of DIY recipes.
