How to Buy Turnips from Daisy Mae

The one and only way to purchase Turnips and play the Stalk Market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is meeting the visiting Daisy Mae character on your island.

Note that in order for Daisy Mae to show up and the Turnip Stalk Market to be enabled, you will need to have fully constructed the Nook’s Cranny shop building on your island.

Daisy Mae Visiting Days and Hours

Daisy Mae shows up offering Turnips for sale on your island every Sunday morning between 5AM to 12PM (Noon). You can find her wandering around in a random location on your island, so be sure to explore the entire area until you find her sneaky spot.

If you have ramps and bridges on your island, expect her to cross over those to farther areas of land, so watch out for that.

How Much Do Turnips Cost To Buy From Daisy Mae?

The price that Daisy Mae will sell Turnips to you on Sunday mornings is a random number that varies every week. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the buy price of turnips will always be within the 90-110 Bells range.

So it’s best to purchase turnips if they are towards the 90-100 Bells buy range as that is objectively a ‘good’ price, but we recommend buying them no matter the price as 110 is certainly not a bad price either. You can profit regardless of where in the buy price range you land — it’s not worth fretting over the buy price.

Time Traveling with Turnips

It’s important to be aware of some restrictions on time traveling once you’ve bought any turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. If you change your system clock backwards in time and load the game at any point while owning turnips, the game will automatically spoil all of your turnips, even if it’s not the next Sunday yet.

Additionally, with the Version 1.2 update released in April, any time traveling backwards by even a single minute can cause your current turnip prices to be reset resulting in a new pattern. If you’re on track for a large spike price or already have one and time travel, it may no longer occur.

How to Store Turnips

After you buy some Turnips from Daisy Mae on Sunday, the next question you’ll be wondering is what to do with them in the meantime until it’s selling time. Here’s a quick rundown on your options for storing turnips, and what options won’t work.

No Turnips in House Storage

Unfortunately, Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not allow you to store Turnips inside of your house storage menu where almost every other item can be stored. This is a pretty big pain, so you’ll have to find another place to store your Turnips while you wait to see them…

Place Turnips Inside House on Tables or Floor

Since you can’t place turnips inside your house storage menu, the only way to store them in your home is to simply place them on the floor in a spare room or attempt to fit some on top of tables. Placing items like Turnips directly on the floor in your room can reduce your Happy Room Academy rating unfortunately.

Place Turnips Outdoors on Tables or Ground

If completely destroying the aesthetic of your interior rooms with Turnips doesn’t seem appealing, it’s worth remembering that Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ brand new feature allowing you to place furniture outside can be very helpful!

Those truly dedicated to turnips might find it worthwhile setting up a section of their island designed to store turnips on a variety of tables. If you’re going to litter turnips everywhere, you can at least try and make it look slightly stylish with some nice furniture at the same time!

How to Sell Turnips at Nook’s Cranny

The only place you can sell your Turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to Timmy or Tommy at the Nook’s Cranny shop. They won’t buy your Turnips on Sundays as the Stalk Market is closed, but during any other day of the week, this is where you go to sell!

Each day throughout the week Monday to Saturday, there are two different Turnip sell prices at Nook’s Cranny — one between opening and 12PM, and another between 12PM and closing.

To learn what the current Turnip selling price is without actually selling your own, walk up to Timmy or Tommy and select the ‘Turnip prices’ dialogue option. If you’re happy with the current price, simply sell your turnips to them the same way you sell any other item.

So in order to maximize your chances of spotting a good Turnip price and turning a solid profit on your investment, you want to ideally check the prices at Nook’s Cranny twice per day all week long. Remember: Check once before 12PM, and check once after 12PM!

When You Should Sell Your Turnips For The Most Money

To state the obvious, you always want to sell your Turnips to Timmy & Tommy for more than you purchased them for from Daisy Mae on Sunday. It’s not a bad idea to make a personal note of what price you bought at, so you don’t accidentally dip into the negative.

The Turnip Stalk Market strategy ultimately comes down to how much risk you are willing to take — if you see a 150 price on Tuesday, do you take it and gain a small profit, or risk holding out for an even greater price later in the week?

Based on information recovered from the game’s code, the highest sell price that can be reached in Animal Crossing: New Horizons through legitimate play is 660 Bells, although it is exceptionally rare to reach such a high.

On the other hand, the lowest possible sell price can reach a painful single-digit 9 Bells. Of course, these maximum and minimum prices can  be adjusted through hacking, but they are the organic limits of turnips.

Common Turnip Price Patterns

The good news is that you’re not totally in the dark on what to expect from prices throughout the week as there are some patterns to how the Stalk Market typically operates. By tracking your turnip prices every day and identifying possible patterns, you can vastly increase your chances of making a profit!

Similarly to past games in the series, the Turnip Stalk Market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons features four different possible general patterns that your island’s Turnip prices can follow throughout the week.

Note that ‘your buy price’ in this section refers to the price that Daisy Mae was selling on your island. If you bought at another island, the price will not be accurate as patterns are based on your own island’s buy price.

Big Spike Pattern

Your turnip prices will initially go down continuously by small amounts appearing to be a bad week, but at some point in the week a series of increasing prices will begin, in which the third increase is the largest ‘spike’ price.

The peak spike price in the Big Spike pattern can be as high as 660 Bells or as low as 180 Bells, depending on your island’s starting buy price.

Small Spike Pattern

Your turnip prices will initially go down continuously by small amounts appearing to be a bad week, but at some point in the week a series of increasing prices will begin, in which the fifth increase is the largest ‘spike’ price.

The peak spike price in the Small Spike pattern can be as high as 220 Bells or as low as 180 Bells, depending on your island’s starting buy price.

Random or Rollercoaster Pattern

Your turnip prices will go through multiple phases of alternating increasing and decreasing amounts, just like a rollercoaster, but never reaching a particularly good high.

The peak price in the Random or Rollercoaster pattern can be as high as 154 Bells and will almost always rise above your buy price at least a couple times.

Decreasing Pattern

Your turnip prices will start at a relatively low number below your buy price, and continue to go down throughout the entire week without ever recovering. This pattern is the only one where you are guaranteed to ‘lose’ playing the Stalk Market on your own island.

You’ll need to visit another island to make a profit when getting the Decreasing Pattern or eat the inevitable loss.

Tips & Tricks to to Lower Risk & Always Profit from Turnips

While it’s impossible to guarantee yourself a profit and avoid all possible losses when playing the Stalk Market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are a few extra tricks to increase your chances of success.

Work Together With Friends

The number one way to always beat the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Stalk Market and avoid finding yourself in trouble is work together with some friends, and the more the merrier! While your own island’s Turnip sell prices may be poor during the week, each and every individual island has its own price.

So if you check in with your friends all week long to see what their prices are, your chances of at least someone you know including yourself having a profitable sell price increases dramatically!

Selling turnips at a friend’s island couldn’t be simpler either — just head over to the Airport, visit their island, and head over to their Nook’s Cranny to begin selling. Of course, you’ll need to stuff your inventory full of all your Turnips and this may require multiple trips if you purchased a lot.

And remember, if you do make a massive profit at another player’s island, it’s considered polite to leave a small tip of Bells if you can for their time. We usually try and tip about 5% of our total profits if possible!

Sell Only Some of Your Turnips Early

Another way to minimize potential losses in the Stalk Market is to be smart and hedge your bets by selling a partial amount of your Turnips earlier on during the week.

Exactly when you may wish to sell is up to your personal risk tolerance and what prices are available, but as an example, you could sell 50% of your Turnips when the price hits 130 Bells on Tuesday.

By doing so, you guarantee no loss for that half of your stockpile and even earn a decent profit on them, while leaving yourself open still to benefiting from a potential high jackpot price later in the week! It’s the best of both worlds and worth considering if you’re worried about losing it all.
